THE 17 BEST SONGS OF 2017 (SO FAR)
Tune in and turn up
As MASS APPEAL’s 2017 Q1 wrap-up continues, having run through The 17 Best Music Videos, Movie Moments, and straight-up Moments of 2017 (So Far), we turn our attention to the songs. If you’ve been following The Listening Room, you already know the first three months of this year have been full of fire. Narrowing this list down to 17 joints was no easy task. We even took an extra day to get it just right. Now it’s time to plug in those headphones (or pair your Bluetooth as needed), maybe smoke a little sum’n, and get ready to turn the fuck up.
15. Amir Obe “Wish You Well”
After a false start years back—like, almost ten—Amir Obe finally released his major label debut this past March. He signed a “bulshit” deal with Atlantic back in 2009, dropped a a bunch of free fire over the next few years, got the OVO co-sign, and then ended up at Def Jam, where he dropped None Of The Clocks Work. His NYLZ-produced track “Wish You Well” is the lead single from that long player, on which he travels from “Yup, pour my problems in a red cup” to “Why would I ever stop celebrating?” in the course of one song. Amir Obe has come full circle. “Wish” kinda embodies that path, resting here for the moment as we see what lies in his future. And we do wish him well. —MS
